Joe and I met in high school, during my junior year and
his senior year. We went to the same college, and got married one year after
I graduated. Over the years we added to our family by adopting two amazing
kitties, Roy and Roger, and later our dog Tucker. We have a wonderful and
happy life - we are extremely blessed. However, we really wanted to complete
our family by adding a baby. In May 2007 I went off the depo-provera shot
we'd been using for years as birth control and waited for nature to take
it's course. Unfortunately, nature had other plans and my body refused to
cooperate. After many months of waiting and trying, I visited the
reproductive endocrinologist (RE) at Princeton IVF and we began our journey
into fertility treatments.
And it was quite the journey. After three failed inter-uterine
inseminations, our RE recommended that we move on to IVF. We had our first
IVF in August of 2008, but due to poor embryo quality. We were very
disappointed, but soldiered on to IVF #2. This one resulted in better
quality embryos and a chemical pregnancy. At this point we were into
November 2008 and reaching the end of our rope. Anyone who has gone through
infertility treatments will tell you that it is a long and extremely
emotional road that wears on you after time. Still, we wanted our baby so we
went on to IVF #3. My RE made several protocol changes, so we were feeling
positive when we began our third cycle in January 2009. We figured, a new
year, a new outcome. And how right we were!!
Less
that two weeks after our three embryos had been transferred I had my first
blood test and it came back positive. We were pregnant!!
The
results of the test yielded big numbers, so we were prepared to discover we
were having twins. We certainly weren't expecting to find out at our first
ultrasound that we were having triplets. Three babies!! Joy, excitement,
shock...you name it, we felt it! But we soon realized that three babies were
more than we ever could have hoped for and we were more than ready to be
parents.
We had a blast telling our families the news (we announced it on Valentine's
Day with cards to all) and now we're eagerly awaiting our new additions.
We've had a few rough patches within the pregnancy so far, but our babies
are rock stars and doing great. We can't wait to meet them!
To Start from the Beginning
A Few Bumps
I
knew full well that a triplet pregnancy was not going to be easy, but I
honestly thought I'd make it a tad further before I ran into any snags.
Alas, at 8 weeks into the pregnancy we rushed to the ER when I woke up
with major bleeding. We were panicked and convinced that we were losing
our beautiful babies. We got a miracle that day, however, when we learned
that all three babies were perfectly healthy and the bleeding subsided. We
were thrilled. Then, 3 nights later I woke up in agony. I was having
horrible, unbearable pain in my lower abdomen. Joe rushed me to the ER,
where I spent 11 hours writhing in pain while the doctors tried to
diagnose my problem.
Eventually, they gave up on trying to diagnose me and instead sent me into
surgery where they would hopefully find and correct the problem. My RE
performed the operation and discovered that my right ovary, enlarged from
the IVF
medication, had twisted completely around my right fallopian tube. Both
needed to be removed. Thankfully though when I woke up from surgery the
crushing pain was gone and I felt much better. I stayed the night in the
hospital and had an ultrasound the next day to check the babies. Once
again our superstar babies were totally fine! We have some troopers on our
hands :)

Two More Hospital Visits
Sigh. Really though, I should NOT complain. Even
though each incident I've had has been scary, they have proven to be
nothing major and the babies have been just fine, which is all that
matters! At almost 14 weeks I had another bleeding episode that sent
me to the ER No cause for the bleeding was found, and a visit to the
MFM
the next day showed that everything was as it should be. I started
to relax a bit, but then yesterday, at almost 17 weeks, I had more
bleeding. This time I went to Labor & Delivery and saw an
awesome OB. He showed me that the babies were fine and assured me
that he could really find nothing wrong - placentas, cervix, etc.
all looked fine. His best guess was that I had a ruptured blood
vessel in my cervix that was causing the intermittent
bleeding. Annoying and scary, but not serious our dangerous. That
was a relief!
Joe and I have determined though that the plus side to all these
hospital and doctor visits is the ultrasounds - at this point I am
16 weeks 5 days along and we've had no less that 17 ultrasounds!

Over
the last few weeks Joe has started reading to the babies every
night before bed. During college I worked in a daycare center
and there I learned that Sandra Boynton
was my favorite children's author. I raved about her books to
Joe so he went out and bought several of her books to share with
the babies. We really enjoy our quality
time with our little ones each night as Joe reads them a silly

Sleep: What's that? Honestly, it's okay,
but I wake up just about every 1-2 hours all night.
Best moment this week: Well, technically
it was last week, but having dinner at Cheeburger
Cheeburger
last Thursday with our friends Daniela and Gerry and their
gorgeous 9 month-old twin girls. Daniela and Gerry had lots
of words of wisdom for Joe and I.
Movement: I think I feel the babies
flutter/move occasionally, but I'm still unsure as to
exactly what I'm feeling.
Food cravings: Ice cream! (see 36 lb weight
gain)
Gender: According to two different u/s
technicians, we're having one boy and two girls. This will
hopefully be confirmed next week!

- none!!! We want none of that for at least 17 more weeks.

This is Roy. Otherwise known as my "royfriend."
In his head, Roy owns me. I am his, and no one elses.
My soul purpose in life is to lay on the couch with Roy
in my arms, kissing and cuddling him. Previously, in his
mind, Roy had two competitors for my attention - Joe and
Tucker. Not that he has a problem showing either who is
boss. Joe receives bites and swats when he dares attempt
to cuddle me or even kiss me good night. In fact, Roy
keeps us apart when we go to bed each night by laying
between Joe and I with his back to Joe and his paw
thrown across my chest.
And poor Tucker. While Tucker really has no desire for
my attention, Roy sees Tucker's mere existence
as a hindrance
to him spending time with me. So every chance he gets,
Roy beats up Tucker, hissing at him and swatting and
biting his head. Tucker has walked away with many a
bloody scratch. If you've never seen a 14 lb cat beat up
an 85 lb pit bull, trust me you haven't lived.
But now Roy has a new threat - my pregnancy boppy
pillow.
Joe bought me this pillow several weeks ago and it makes
sleeping much more comfortable. Unfortunately, it also
prevents me from holding Roy at night when I sleep. Roy
has not taken kindly to this. He's tried throwing
himself atop the pillow, yet that makes for an unstable
sleeping surface. He's tried sleeping on my head, but
that's not as comfy. Every time I go to the bathroom
at night (and that's a lot) I return to bed to find Roy
lounging in "his" spot on the bed, waving his
tail like, "Come on. You KNOW you want to cuddle
me." And I usually give in, toss the pillow aside
and let him snuggle. Some nights, however, I just need
to sleep and I hang on to the pillow. On these nights,
like last night, I awake to find Roy sitting on our
headboard, glaring down at me and the pillow, plotting
the pillow's destruction. I guess it's only a matter of
time before I come home and find the pillow shredded to
pieces. But better the pillow than Tucker, I guess...

The Curse of the 4th

So, I've determined that the 4th
of each month is a bad luck day! Let's review. On
March 4th I woke up in excruciating pain and ended
up in the hospital having my right ovary and
fallopian tube removed. On April 4th I had a
bleeding episode that sent me to the ER. And
yesterday, on May 4th my MFM
appointment showed that my cervix has shortened to
2.4 and I was placed on bedrest.
Damn you, 4th!!
But we'll start with the good news. The babies are
doing awesome!! We are definitely having one boy
and two girls. The boy is weighing in at 9 ounces
and the girls are each 8 ounces. And they are
perfect :) All are measuring right on track, their
hearts are perfectly formed and they are active!
In fact, Baby C was moving so much they could
hardly measure her.
As for the bedrest,
we knew it would happen eventually, as it is very
common in triplet pregnancies, but I did think I'd
have a few more weeks before it happened. Luckily
we're not in a dire situation though. A cervix
that gets too short can bring on pre-term
labor and no one wants that. Mine is not
dangerously short at 2.4, but it has shortened
from 3.2 in the last few weeks. Bedrest
can often prevent a cervix from shortening
further, so here I am. I essentially need to be
lying down or reclined at all times. I can get up
to go the bathroom, grab something quick to eat
and to shower every other day. I'm allowed to come
downstairs once a day to lie on the couch and then
go back up at night for bed. But that's it.
Luckily it looks like I'll be able to work from
home for awhile so hopefully that will keep me
from getting too bored too soon.
It's disappointing
to be on bedrest
already, but all that matters is that I do what's
best for the babies. We need to keep them in there
as long as possible. I am also lucky to have the
best husband in the world who is actually happy to
wait on me hand and foot. So we'll make it! Grow,
babies, grow! And everyone keep your fingers
crossed for me when June 4th rolls around...

Sleep: Eh. I did get a nice
little nap in during Desperate Housewives last
night, then had to rewind and watch what I'd
missed. Um, then I promptly fell back asleep
and had to rewind for a third time. Joe was
less than pleased.
Best moment last week: Um...
Well, I'm adjusting to bedrest.
So last week I enjoyed the visits I got from
family and friends.
Movement: I'm pretty sure I
felt some kicks last night in bed! Either from
Baby A or B. They were pretty distinct so I
think they were kicks. It was exciting!
Food cravings: Nothing out of
the ordinary. Although I did have Joe make me
a big pan of banana split cake - mmmm!

The lack of good news continues

My cervical length
check today showed more cervical
shortening, even after having been on bedrest
for 2 weeks. This is not good news at
all. At this rate we are at serious risk
for delivering the babies before they
are viable - we are only 20 weeks today.
A procedure called a cerclage
is available (they put a stitch in your
cervix to attempt to keep it from
shortening further) but neither my OB or
MFM
do the procedure. They feel that the
risk is not worth the possible
prevention of early labor and feel that
I should just continue on bedrest
and hope for the best. I disagree. I
spoke with an MFM
at St. Peter's University Hospital in
New Brunswick who is pro cerclage
in multiples pregnancies and Joe and I
have an appointment there tomorrow. If I
am a candidate, they will most likely
admit me and do the procedure tomorrow.
Please keep us in your thoughts. I
really feel that this is what's best for
our babies. I need to do something. I am
their mommy and it is my job to protect
them. I'm praying for some positive
feedback tomorrow and some hope. We will
keep everyone posted. Below are the
ultrasound pictures from today, so you
can all see who we are fighting for.

Okay, this is my
first post on this blog and it’s
hardly how I pictured it. But it
could be a lot worse. Here’s the
update as of 9:59 p.m. on Tuesday,
May 19, 2009.
Brooke is still waiting for a room
at St. Peters Hospital in New
Bruswick. She’s in a room in their
“P.E.T.” section but I have no
idea what that acronym stands for.
All I know is, that is the section
of the hospital where they keep
pregnant women who have medial
issues (sort of an emergency room
for expectant moms). They tell me
that there’s a room waiting for
her, but a this rate, it will be
next week before she’s in it.
Today we had an ultrasound and saw,
once again, that all the babies are
healthy and active. We got more
beautiful pictures of Baby A and
Baby C, but B was too excited to
settle down for long enough to take
a good pic. Fortunately,
yesterday’s ultrasound gave us
possibly our best baby pic, and that
was a pic of Baby B.
The ultrasound confirmed how short
Brooke’s cervix has gotten,
despite two weeks of bedrest. It was
measuring at 1.2- 1.3 cm, which is
way too short (I’ve learned more
than I ever wanted to know about
cervixes, vaginas, etc). Baby A’s
(the boy) head is right up against
it, pushing on the cervix and not
exactly helping things out too much.
Here’s my VERY LIMITED
understanding of things. If
Brooke’s cervix keeps shortening
at the rate it currently is
shortening, she will go into labor
in two weeks. The babies would only
be 22 weeks and there would be no
chance any of them would survive.
Brooke’s OB told us to “wait and
see.” Maybe the shortening would
subside, she said. But if it
didn’t subside on its own, we
would lose the babies. Needless to
say, this is just not good enough.
So off to St. Peters Hospital we
went, knowing that they’re one of
the top hospitals in the area for
high-risk pregnancies. There we met
Dr. Houlihan, who is a really nice,
really proactive OB/MFM doc who was
all for trying to stop the
shortening before it gets worse.
Doing so means it’s time for a
cerclage (this is how I’m told
it’s spelled, but it just looks
wrong to me. The word is pronounced
CIRC—LODGE).
Dr. Houlihan drew out a very helpful
picture to explain to me what
putting in a cerclage means.
Basically, this will push the
amniotic sack back up the cervix and
then stitch the cervix so that it
doesn’t shorten any more. But this
is surgery, so there is a risk.
There is a 5% chance that the sack
will rupture during surgery and we
will lose the babies. We decided
that the 5% chance was worth the
risk, since the alternative to do
nothing would most likely have bad
results.
We don’t know exactly when the
surgery will take place because they
will basically have to squeeze us in
between planned surgeries and
emergencies. Hopefully, it will be
early on Wednesday. Brooke will have
to be in the hospital for a couple
days afterward, and then on pretty
strict bed rest for the duration of
the pregnancy, especially for the
next two weeks. But if it gives our
babies a chance….

ask about how we’re doing and
what’s the latest. To all of you,

I’m happy to
report that Brooke had the
cerclage surgery today, and there
were no noticeable complications.
They were able to “push” the
membrane of the amniotic sack back
to where it should be and then
stitch off the cervix, which will
hopefully prevent it from
shortening any more.
The surgery finally happened
around six o’clock this evening
and Brooke was in the recovery
room before seven. She’s has had
some really bad cramping and the
two percosets haven’t been too
successful in dulling it much.
Hopefully, she’ll be able to
sleep a bit and wake up to a
pain-free stomach.
The good news is that the surgery
worked and we are in a much better
position than we were in just 24
hours ago. The bad news is that
the risk of infection from the
surgery is pretty high so we’ve
got to be extremely wary for the
next two weeks. Dr. Houlihan said
that it will take two weeks
without problems to be sure that
there were no adverse effects from
the surgery. So while we feel a
lot lot lot lot lot lot better,
we’re not out of the proverbial
woods yet.
I’m home now as I’m typing
this (11:43 p.m.) and Brooke just
called me to report that, after I
left the hospital, the nurses did
some tests and heard each of the
babies’ heartbeats and they all
sounded just as strong as ever. It
was also interesting (though not a
good thing) that Brooke actually
had a contraction after the
surgery. They had told us this was
likely to happen due to the drugs,
Brooke had never felt one before.
Luckily, it was just the one so
there was never a concern that she
was going to go into labor, but
now she knows what it feels like
for when the time does finally
come—which will hopefully not be
for at least another ten to
fourteen weeks!
Brooke will be in the hospital for
at least another full day. We
asked about maybe being allowed to
come home tomorrow night and Dr.
Houlihan didn’t seem overly
optimistic, but he also didn’t
dismiss it altogether. But another
day at the hospital to be
monitored and cared for isn’t
the worst thing in the world right
now (though Brooke is going
through some sort of withdraw from
begin apart from her Roy-friend
for so long).
Again, thank you to everyone for
the constant barrage of messages,
texts, emails, etc. Knowing
we’re not alone has made this
much easier for us both, and
we’ve told the babies how lucky
they are that so many people are
going to want to meet them.
I’ll post again tomorrow night
just to let you know how
everything progresses.

Hopefully,
this will the be last time I
have to post an update for
everyone because...
BROOKE IS COMING HOME
TOMORROW!!!! (assuming, of
course, that no complications
develop between now and then)
She woke up feeling much better
today. The cramps were gone (ha!
I luckily just caught a typo
there-- I had originally written
"the craps were gone,"
and I'm pretty sure Brooke would
have murdered me if I had posted
that) and she had some energy
back. She ate breakfast and
lunch, and by dinner time she
was snacking on cookies, cakes,
puddings, etc. Apparently, you
can order multiple desserts with
your dinner while at St. Peters
Hospital.
There was another round of
sonograms this morning and
another check for contractions
and the results of both were
perfect. So far, no signs of any
problems. Since the doctor said
that the two weeks after surgery
are the most important, we now
have just twelve more days until
we can relax (just a little).
Why do I have a feeling that
this is going to be a very long
twelve days?
We passed the day chatting,
playing a half-assed game of
Monopoly, and visiting with
Lauren, who was kind of enough
to stop by the hospital despite
being quite pregnant herself.

First of
all, thank you to everyone for
their prayers, thoughts, help,
advice, etc. It's overwhelming
how awesome all our friends
and family are and it means a
lot!! I have been home now for
almost 3 hours and it's so
good to be back. My couch
missed me. And Roy. Roy missed
me a little too. (When I got
home Joe was trying to show me
the new FTHS
yearbook and Roy kept wedging
himself between us and
eventually wound up sitting ON
the yearbook so I would look
at him and not the book).
But so far, so good (fingers
crossed). Now we just hang in
there and hope the cerclage
does it's job. We go back in 2
weeks for a checkup. We are
very happy that we decided to
have this done. I love, love,
LOVE my new doctor and
hospital (Dr. Houlihan
at St. Peter's in New
Brunswick). I agree 100% with
his philosophies and he is
very cautious and proactive.
So right now I'm happy and I
hope we have nothing but good
news to report from here on
out.

Whenever
someone says,
"Wow,
triplets! How
will you
manage?"
Joe and I tell
them that we
have an awesome
support system
and will have
plenty of help.
That has been
proven to be
100% true
already, and the
babies aren't
even here yet!
Since I've been
placed on bedrest,
our family and
friends have
gone out of
their way to
help us out and
cheer us up.
My mom comes
over every
weekend and
helps with the
housecleaning
and laundry.
Joe's mom has
made and
delivered
countless meals
and has shopped
for comfy
clothes for me.
Joe's brother
John has made it
his mission to
make sure I'm
never without
lunch. Our
friends have
been stopping by
regularly (which
is a huge gift
in itself!) with
books and
magazines and
delivering
homemade meals
and baked goods
for us to enjoy.
Just yesterday
our friend Karen
surprised us by
having an
Italian feast
from our
favorite
restaurant
delivered to us
for dinner,
complete with tiramisu
for dessert, and
my friend Kim
stopped over
with a gift of
Beach in a Box,
so on days when
the couch isn't
cutting it I can
imagine myself
relaxing on the
warm sand.
We are so, so
grateful to have
such amazing
family and
friends taking
care of us
through all
this. We truly
appreciate it
all!
Plugging Along

I've
been told by
many people
recently
that I need
to update
this blog
(hi, John!),
so here you
go! I
haven't
updated
because I
really have
nothing to
say. But I
consider
that a good
thing! I'm
still
hanging here
on bedrest.
We have our
first post-cerclage
doctor's
appointment
tomorrow, so
we're hoping
for some
good news
from that.
They will
also do an
anatomy scan
of the
babies so
we'll get to
see how they
are growing.
I'm looking
forward to
that, and
also to
getting out
of the
house!
My typical
day is spent
(where
else?) on
the couch. I
work during
the day and
wait for Joe
to come home
from school.
Once he gets
home we chat
and
sometimes
play against
each other
in Bejeweled
Blitz (I
suck). Then
Joe gets us
dinner, we
eat, watch
TV (well, I
watch TV,
Joe grades
or folds
laundry or
something
else
productive)
and Joe
usually goes
out and gets
me ice
cream. On
weekends
it's the
same for me,
except
working is
replaced
with bad TV
and mindless
Internet
surfing.
Joe's weekends
are much
busier -
umpiring,
volunteering
at
Challenger,
cleaning,
laundry,
working in
the yard.
He's an
awesome
husband for
handling it
all.
I'm pretty
excited that
we've gotten
into June!
Our first
goal for
this
pregnancy is
to make it
to 24 weeks,
at which
point the
babies would
have a
chance at
survival if
they
arrived.
I'll hit 24
weeks in 11
more days. I
hope they
are an
uneventful
11 days! Of
course, we
want them to
stay in
much, much
longer than
24 weeks,
but it will
be a slight
releif to
know that
they could
be okay if
they arrived
at that
point. But I
get happy
each time a
new month
arrives and
we are one
step closer
to a safe
and healthy
delivery of
our babies.
Speaking of
the babies,
they are
moving a lot
more now and
Joe can
actually
feel them.
We can't
tell exactly
which ones
we're
feeling,
although we
can usually
make a
pretty good
guess. It's
nice to feel
them and be
reassured
that they
are doing
well in
there.
So there's
an update!
We'll post
again
tomorrow
after our
appointment.

wonderful
friends and

bringing us

Today we had our first post-cerclage doctor's appointment and it actually went well. Finally! I had a cervical check and so far the cerclage is doing its job. Everything is where it should be, above the stitch, and I actually gained some cervical length since before the procedure. Right before the cerclage I was measuring 1.1 - 1.3 cm and today I measured 1.7 cm. So that's good news. The other piece of good news was our babies. They are rock stars!! They all looked absolutely perfect and were super active during the ultrasound. Plus they are big and fat!! Each baby weighed in at 1 lb 2 oz even. The tech said she'd never had three babies all weigh the same at the same time. She also said that they were a great size for their gestation. I'm so proud of them! They are doing a good job (although I like to think I'm helping by giving them lots of ice cream to grow on). Of course, the ice cream is making ME grow too - I've gained 55 lbs so far - but it's totally worth it if it helps the babies. So after being out of the house for 7 hours (big day!) I'm back on the couch. Joe and I are happy right now - I hope this trend continues. We go back in a another 2 weeks to check the cervix again. Fingers crossed!
St. Peters 2: Return to the Hospital

It
has
become
my
official
responsibility
to
update
the
blog
when
Brooke
is
in
the
hospital.
I
feel
like
the
guy
at
the
party
that
nobody
wants
to
talk
to!
Anyway,
Brooke
is
back
at
St.
Peters.
The
cerclage
surgery
last
month
went
well
and
seems
to
have
done
what
it
was
meant
to
do,
but
the
medicine
she
was
on
apparently
caused
some
adverse
reactions.
Brooke
has
an
infection
in
her
intestines
called
C-Diff.
I
just
looked
it
up
online
to
get
a
better
understanding,
and
basically
it
happens
when
all
the
“bad”
bacteria
in
the
in
GI
tract
grow
out
of
control
(usually
as a
result
of
an
anti-biotic).
And
since
it
causes
nausea
and
an
inability
to
keep
food
in
the
stomach,
Brooke
has
gotten
very,
very
dehydrated.
The
on-call
doctor
gave
her
some
drugs
over
the
weekend,
but
it
just
didn’t
get
any
better
at
all.
But
the
good
news
is
that
she
was
put
on a
much
better
(and
much
stronger)
antibiotic
that
should
wipe
it
out
of
her
system
in a
matter
of a
day.
She’s
also
on
some
drugs
to
help
with
the
nausea
and
on
an
IV
to
get
her
some
fluids.
I
just
came
from
the
hospital
and
she
already
looks
a
lot
better
than
she
did
last
night
after
only
a
few
short
hours
on
the
drugs.
Hopefully,
if
all
goes
well,
she
can
come
home
24
hours
after
starting
the
medicine,
which
would
be
later
in
the
day
tomorrow.
Luckily,
nobody
seemed
at
all
worried
that
this
would
hurt
the
babies
at
all.
I
have
no
idea
how
something
that
could
totally
ravage
Brooke
could
have
no
effect
on
those
three
tiny
babies,
but
I
guess
that’s
for
smarted
people
to
understand.
Also,
I
wanted
to
take
a
second
to
thank
our
parents
for
all
their
help
today
(and
every
day,
really,
but
today
especially).
Pam
(Brooke’s
mom)
took
off
from
work
at
the
last
minute
to
drive
Brooke
up
to
St.
Peters
and
she
stayed
there
all
day
so
Brooke
didn’t
have
to
be
alone.
And
my
parents
were
nice
enough
to
drive
all
the
way
up
to
Jackson
to
pick
Tucker
up
from
doggie
day
care
(Hi
Kara
and
Audrey!)
so I
could
go
directly
to
the
hospital
after
work.
Not
having
to
worry
about
taking
another
day
off
from
work
or
getting
Tucker
home
made
my
day
a
lot
less
stressful
than
it
otherwise
would
have
been.
So
thanks
a
lot!

Curse
you,
C-Diff!
You
are
a
horrible,
horrible
infection
and
I
can
not
wait
for
you
to
be
gone!!
I
am
still
in
the
hospital,
fighting
the
C-Diff.
I
do
think
it's
getting
a
bit
better,
so
that's
good.
At
least
I
can
eat
now.
I'm
taking
probiotics
and
a
very
strong
drug
called
Vancomyicin
to
fight
the
infection,
plus
I
am
on
an
IV
of
fluids
to
treat
my
dehydration
and
now
to
treat
my
low
potassium
levels.
I
have
also
been
getting
Zofran
for
nausea
but
am
trying
to
go
without
now.
So
far,
so
good.
I'll
be
here
at
least
until
tomorrow,
but
that's
really
okay
I
guess.
I
don't
want
to
go
home
when
I'm
still
all
sick
and
gross.
I
like
being
monitored
here.
The
good
news
is
that
none
of
this
seems
to
be
affecting
the
babies.
I
saw
them
on
an
ultrasound
this
morning
and
they
look
good
with
nice
strong
heartbeats.
Everyone
at
the
hospital
is
very
nice
at
least,
and
this
time
I
have
Internet
access
so
that's
a
big
plus!
Some
bad
things
about
being
in
the
hospital:
1)
The
hospital
gowns.
Why
oh
why
do
they
make
these
things
so
that
you
need
to
be
a
rocket
scientist
to
figure
out
how
to
put
them
on??
I
need
to
change
my
gown
but
can't
figure
out
how
to
get
a
new
one
on.
I
would
love
to
wear
my
own
clothes
but
I
can't
because
of
the
IV.
2)
The
food.
Now
it
could
be
worse,
but
why
can't
they
ever
get
my
order
right??
Last
night
I
almost
cried
when
I
got
a
PB&J
instead
of
the
turkey
sandwich
I
wanted
and
Joe
had
to
run
to
all
the
cafeterias
to
get
me
something
else.
This
morning
I
was
all
excited
to
eat
my
yogurt
but
they
brought
me
fat
free
instead
of
regular
and
I
don't
eat
the
artificial
sweeteners
so
I
couldn't
have
it.
3)
The
early
mornings.
Today
by
8:00
AM
I
had
had
my
blood
pressure
and
temperature
taken,
my
blood
drawn,
been
given
my
meds,
had
my
IV
changed,
had
an
ultrasound,
talked
to
two
doctors
and
gotten
breakfast.
Whew!
Anyhow,
I
hope
to
be
better
and
home
by
the
weekend.

Have
I
mentioned
that
I
hate
C-Diff?
Because
I
do.
This
stupid
virus/infection/spawn
of
hell
just
will
NOT
go
away.
I
am
better
than
I
was
when
I
was
admitted
on
Monday,
but
I
am
not
BETTER.
They
are
upping
my
medication
today
so
hopefully
that
will
help.
I'll
probably
be
here
until
Sunday
or
Monday.
Hopefully
not
longer
than
that!
I've
been
passing
the
time
on
the
Internet
and
reading,
mostly.
One
of
Joe's
students
was
kind
enough
to
pass
along
her
step-father's
Netflix
info
for
me,
so
I
can
watch
movies
online
too.
I
watched
one
yesterday
and
that
was
a
nice
time
killer.
I
also
really
need
to
learn
to
nap
during
the
day
here,
since
I
never
get
any
sleep
at
night.
Why
do
they
need
my
temperature
at
2:00
AM?!?!?
The
good
news
is
that
the
babies
are
doing
just
fine!
I
saw
them
this
morning
on
an
ultrasound
and
they
were
flipping
all
around
and
being
goofy.
That
makes
me
happy
-
I'd
much
rather
be
here
because
something
is
wrong
with
me
than
because
something
is
wrong
with
the
babies!
So
I'm
just
hanging
in
here
and
waiting
to
miraculously
get
better
so
I
can
go
back
home.
Joe
keeps
promising
to
smuggle
Roy
in
for
me,
but
so
far
my
room
is
kittenless....
Oh,
and
I
have
to
give
a
shout-out
to
the
Freehold
Township
High
School
yearbook
staff!
Joe
is
the
advisor
of
the
yearbook
and
their
awesome
book
won
8
out
of
the
10
awards
given
at
the
district-wide
awards
ceremony
last
night.
No
real
surprise
since
their
yearbook
rocked,
but
praise-worthy
nonetheless.

24 Weeks and I'm Home!

Today
we
hit
our
first
big
milestone
-
I'm
24
weeks
today!!
Not
that
I
want
the
babies
getting
any
ideas
-
they
need
to
stay
in
there
for
at
least
6
(put
preferably
10!)
more
weeks!
But
it's
great
to
have
finally
reached
24
weeks.
Sometimes
it
felt
like
we'd
never
get
here.
Keep
growing,
babies!
Today
is
also
good
because
I'm
home!!
Thanks
to
everyone
for
your
prayers
and
good
thoughts.
I
was
released
from
the
hospital
this
afternoon.
It
is
SO
nice
to
be
out
of
there
and
I
feel
so
much
better.
I
need
to
take
medication
every
6
hours,
which
will
require
me
to
set
my
alarm
each
night
for
12:00
AM
and
6:00
AM
but
I'm
not
complaining.
It
is
wonderful
to
be
back
home
on
my
couch
with
Joe.
Oh,
and
should
I
mention
that
Roy
is
happy
to
have
me
back
home
too?
Reunited
and
it
feels
sooooo
goooood.........
Broken Water
At
6:30
pm,
Brooke's
water
broke.
She
is
only
24
weeks
and
three
days,
so
it's
not
ideal.
We
rushed
to
the
hospital,
and
after
lots
of
testing
and
waiting,
they
determined
that
she
isn't
going
into
labor
just
yet.
However,
the
babies
are
coming
sooner
rather
than
later.
Whether
that
means
tomorrow
or
next
week
or
next
month,
we
don't
know.
But
they're
coming.
The
doctors
gave
her
a
drug
to
stop
the
contractions
and
steroids
to
help
the
babies
lungs
grow
faster.
She's
at
St.
Peter's
Hospital
again
and
she'll
be
there
until
after
the
babies
come.
Baby
A,
our
son,
is
the
baby
whose
sack
ruptured.
The
doctor
did
two
ultrasounds
and
seems
confident
that
Brooke
will
be
able
to
produce
enough
fluids
to
keep
him
healthy
for
a
while
longer
yet.
Baby
A
is
the
lowest,
up
against
Brooke's
cervix,
and
she
comments
all
the
time
about
how
she
feels
him
"cervix
dancing."
Our
son
is
a
little
trouble-maker
already.
If
they
have
to
come
soon,
they
can
survive.
But
there
will
be
many
complications--
too
many
for
me
to
worry
about
and
still
be
expected
to
sleep.
So
we
need
to
just
hope
that
Brooke's
body
can
hold
out
for
a
while
longer,
another
few
weeks
yet.
It's
possible.
The
doctor
said
50%
of
all
women
deliver
within
a
week
after
their
water
breaking.
We
just
need
to
hope
that
Brooke
falls
into
the
other
half
that
holds
out
longer.
And
to
anyone
who
was
planning
on
coming
to
Brooke's
shower
on
Saturday,
that
is
obviously
being
canceled.
It
probably
wouldn't
be
too
logical
to
have
it
while
Brooke
is
in
the
hospital
and
everything
is
so
up
in
the
air.

after
the
three
healthy
babies

First
of
all,
thank
you
for
all
your
kind
comments
to
Joe's
last
post.
We
really
appreciate
all
the
thoughts,
prayers
and
well
wishes.
And
thank
you
to
all
our
friends
and
family
for
your
support.
This
has
been
the
most
surreal
and
terrifying
24
hours
of
our
lives.
I
don't
know
why
this
keeps
happening
to
us.
I
can't
get
over
the
unfairness
of
it
all.
We
are
just
hoping
with
all
our
hearts
that
these
babies
can
stay
in
for
a
few
more
weeks.
I'm
still
on
the
Indocin
for
contractions
until
tomorrow
night.
Hopefully
once
they
stop
that
the
contractions
will
stay
away.
My
cervix
was
closed
last
night
and
the
cerclage
was
in
place
so
I'm
hoping
it
stays
that
way.
I
got
one
steroid
shot
for
the
babies
lungs
last
night
and
I'll
get
another
tonight.
I'm
also
on
antibiotics
and
fluids.
I
know
everything
possible
is
being
done,
I
just
wish
there
was
something
more
I
could
do.
Joe
and
I
took
a
tour
of
the
NICU
this
afternoon.
I'm
glad
we
got
to
see
it,
but
it
was
so,
so
hard.
I
cried
the
entire
time
we
were
in
there
and
Joe
and
I
both
sobbed
together
when
we
got
back
to
my
room.
Babies
4
weeks
older
than
ours
were
just
so
tiny
and
fragile
and
sick
-
I
just
can't
even
imagine
our
sweet
babies
going
through
that.
But
it
was
a
wonderful
facility
with
an
awesome,
caring
staff
so
I
know
everything
will
be
done
for
them
when
the
time
comes.
I
just
hope
that
time
isn't
for
a
few
more
weeks.
I
had
another
ultrasound
this
morning
and
the
babies
heart
rates
were
all
good
and
they
were
moving
all
around.
They
estimated
Baby
A
to
be
1
lb
3
oz,
Baby
B
to
be
1
lb
5
oz
and
Baby
C
to
be
1
lb
6
oz.
I
would
love
to
get
them
to
2
lbs...
So
anyway,
now
we
just
keep
waiting
and
hoping
for

Today
was
my
second
full
day
here
in
the
hospital
after
Baby
A's
water
breaking.
So
far
so
good
-
I'm
still
here
and
the
babies
are
still
in.
This
afternoon
I
had
a
fairly
long
ultrasound
with
the
MFM
on
duty.
The
babies
were
all
looking
good
and
were
all
"breathing"
in
the
womb.
Well,
A
and
C
were
breathing
nicely,
right
on
command.
B
had
to
be
difficult
and
make
the
doctor
wait
forever
before
she
showed
off
her
breathing
skills,
but
she
can
do
it
too!
After
that
the
MFM
wanted
Baby
A
on
a
monitor
to
watch
his
heart
rate
for
awhile.
Because
of
how
low
he
is
the
monitor
wasn't
working
with
the
belts
so
Joe
was
recruited
to
hold
the
monitor
in
place
for
30
minutes.
Like
a
good,
dedicated
Daddy
he
held
that
thing
until
his
arms
fell
asleep.
Baby
A
did
great
though
and
had
a
nice
consistent
heart
rate
of
130-140
the
entire
time.
I
received
my
second
and
final
(for
now)
steroid
shot
last
night
(the
MFM
said
if
I
go
two
more
weeks
I'll
get
another
round)
and
took
my
last
Idocin
for
contractions
this
evening.
This
makes
me
nervous
to
stop
but
my
fingers
are
crossed
that
I
won't
have
any
contractions
even
without
the
meds.
I
also
managed
to
avoid
the
evil
leg
compressor
things
for
now.
The
MFM
tried
to
get
me
to
wear
them
but
I
pled
my
case
(I
move
my
legs
a
lot!
I
get
up
to
pee!
I
shower
daily!)
against
them.
He
still
would
prefer
I
have
them
on
but
for
now
I'm
avoiding
them.
The
situation
is
kind
of
sucky
enough
without
being
chained
to
my
bed
with
hot,
plastic
wraps
on
my
legs
squeezing
them
every
minute.
So
that's
it
for
now.
I
just
hope
to
keep
chugging
along.

I
had
to
start
of
today's
update
by
wishing
Joe
a
happy
Father's
Day.
Joe,
you
are
already
a
wonderful
daddy
and
the
best
husband
in
the
world.
We'll
have
a
much
better
Father's
Day
next
year,
I
swear.
Otherwise,
today
was
another
good
day,
considering.
The
babies
are
still
doing
very
well.
My
ultrasound
this
morning
showed
all
three
doing
their
breathing
and
wiggling
all
over.
Their
heart
rates
were
nice
and
strong
and
Baby
A's
heart
rate
was
perfectly
consistent
the
entire
time
he
was
on
the
monitor.
Good
work,
guys!
I
was
excited
this
morning
when
they
took
my
IV
out.
I'm
getting
my
antibiotics
orally
now
and
they
said
I
don't
need
the
fluids
as
long
as
I'm
eating
and
drinking
normally.
I
was
thrilled
with
my
freedom
for
all
of
5
minutes,
until
the
doctor
came
in
and
started
pushing
those
damn
leg
compressors
again.
This
time
I
cried,
but
gave
in.
I've
had
them
on
most
of
the
day,
give
or
take
a
few
breaks
I've
given
myself.
I
really
hate
them.
I
feel
like
I've
been
very
good
at
dealing
with
everything
so
far
and
I
deserve
to
be
a
big
old
baby
about
SOMETHING,
so
I
choose
the
leg
compressors
to
turn
my
frustrations
on.
Hmph.
I
also
need
to
thank
all
our
friends
and
family
who
are
supplying
us
with
treats
and
food.
Lauren
brought
me
Funfetti
cupcakes
yesterday
which
Joe,
my
nurse
and
I
all
enjoyed.
Today
my
mom
showed
up
with
a
care
package
from
Colleen
of
all
my
favorite
Amish
treats
from
Lebanon
-
whoopie
pies
and
fresh
hard
pretzels.
Mmmmmm.
Those
I'm
not
sharing.
And
Joe's
mom
made
us
stromboli
so
Joe
and
I
got
to
enjoy
a
dinner
that
wasn't
from
the
hospital
cafeteria.
I'm
eating
as
much
as
I
can
to
try
to
fatten
up
the
babies
(I'm
trying
to
be
healthy
at
the
moment
and
am
eating
a
yogurt),
so
all
the
food
is
greatly
appreciated.
That's
it
for
today.
I'm
exhausted
today
-
a
lot
of
night
time
interruptions
last
night
so
I'm
ready
for
bed.
25 Weeks
Monday, June 22, 2009
Today
was
the
start
of
week
25.
I'm
happy
to
be
into
a
new
week,
but
of
course
still
praying
that
the
babies
stay
put
for
many
weeks
to
come.
Still,
Joe
and
I
celebrated
the
new
week
with
afternoon
sundaes
from
Carvel.
It
was
a
pretty
quiet
afternoon
today.
All
my
doctor
visits
and
monitoring
happened
early
in
the
morning
so
I
was
pretty
much
done
by
9:00
AM.
The
babies
looked
good
on
the
ultrasound
and
there
are
still
no
contractions
happening,
which
is
a
wonderful
thing.
My
doctor
ordered
the
food
service
people
to
bring
me
3
bottles
of
water
per
meal,
so
I've
been
trying
to
drink
a
lot.
Dinnertime
was
fun
because
Jamie
and
Dave
came
to
visit
us.
They
brought
Chinese
food
and
we
hung
out
and
chatted
for
a
few
hours.
Jamie
also
brought
me
a
great
bag
of
treats
-
yummy
smelling
soap
and
foot
cream,
lip
balm,
Newman-Os
and
a
few
awesome
looking
microwave
desserts.
I
know
officially
have
the
most
stocked
room
in
the
hospital.
If
anyone
needs
a
snack,
come
on
by.
So
another
day
almost
down,
and
I'm
grateful
for
each
and
every
one.

After
lunch
today
I
logged
into
my
email
and
found
a
message
from
my
friend
Lori,
who
also
happens
to
be
an
awesome
artist.
She
had
seen
the
bedding
sets
I
registered
for
online
and
went
ahead
and
painted
and
framed
some
pictures
for
the
nursery
walls
to
match
the
sets.
I
had
no
idea
she
was
doing
this
and
she
sent
me
the
pictures
to
cheer
me
up.
I
love
them
so
much
(I'm
particularly
fond
of
the
fat
little
bear
sitting
on
the
hill)!

was
Joe's
last
day
of
school
for
the
summer
-
yay!
I'm
happy
that
he
now
has
one
less
thing
to
worry
about!
He
came
up
right
after
school
today
and
we
spent
the
afternoon
watching
a
movie
he'd
rented
for
us
-
Paul
Blart,
Mall
Cop.
Yup,
that
was
his
pick.
The
highlight
of
that
movie
was
realizing
that
Paul
Blart
resembled
my
dad.
That's
all
I
can
really
say
about
that.
This
evening
John
and
Rebecca
came
to
hang
out.
They
brought
pizza
for
dinner
and

fun
looking
computer
game

pits
cows
against
pandas.

The
babies
are
still
doing
well.
On
this
morning's
ultrasound
Baby
A
had
himself
a
little
pocket
of
fluid,
so
that
made
me
happy.
The
doctor
told
me
that
there
would
be
days
where
he
had
no
fluid
and
days
where
he
had
a
little,
but
naturally
I
feel
better
on
days
when
he
has
some.
All
three
were
wiggling
around
and
doing
their
thing.
I
love
starting
my
day
with
a
peek
at
them.
Tomorrow
I
take
my
last
doses
of
antibiotics
and
C-Diff
medication.
Let's
just
hope
I
stay
healthy
and
infection
free.
I
also
have
to
take
my
1
hour
glucose
test
tomorrow.
Blech.
I
better
pass
that
-
I
need
my
cookies
and
chocolate!
